I’ve long tried to reconcile the gap between the profession of faith by politically-mobilized fundamentalist “Christians” and the political policies they (tend to) adopt (please note the contingency here). This post may move me towards a greater understanding of this quandary and how we deal with it practically. I’ll follow these links and see where it takes me. Until then, I’ll continue to be disgusted by the demonstration of so-called “Christian conservatives” at the recent GOP debates (who the hell boos an active-duty serviceman? Oh, right. He’s gay).
But a point I made on twitter, I’ll make again: there is a direct line connecting the callousness on display at all three GOP debates the past few weeks, the austerity measures the GOP wants to implement in this country that would risk plunging the vast majority of the population into poverty, our country’s increased militarization both domestically and globally, Troy Davis’ execution last night as a symbol of the disregard for human life in our society despite the anti-choice fervor that resides in the Right…all this and more are linked by a long, straight, ugly line- and it sure as hell doesn’t lead to Jesus.
